Odor Control in Aquafeed production using non-thermal plasma
With the increase in the number of people living on Earth today and the high demand towards the environment, Odor Control is becoming more important.
In certain industries, odors during processes like extrusion, drying, or cooling cannot be avoided. Especially in the production of Fish Feed (Aqua Feed) where smelly ingredients, like fishmeal, are used, a large amount of odors are emitted during this process. To ensure fresh air for your neighbors and/or comply with government regulations, Odor Control is necessary.
A commonly used and effective technique for odor control in the Aqua Feed Industry is Non-Thermal Plasma (NTP) Technology.
What is non-thermal plasma?
Plasma is known as the fourth state of matter, alongside liquid, solid, and gas. It consists of ionized gas, which is a balanced mixture of electrons, positive ions, and neutral particles. Due to the highly energetic state of the plasma components, it produces electromagnetic radiation. Aerox developed plasma modules that generate NTP with electrical energy. Since NTP operates at room temperature, it requires relatively little electricity, ensuring a sustainable and cost-effective odor control solution. NTP does not cause a significant temperature increase in the air flow of the process.
How does the equipment work?
It takes ambient air and cleans it using three-stage filters (Fig.2), then enters the Injector cabin where it passes through the NTP modules. Inside the plasma modules, oxygen and water vapor molecules are separated, transforming them into active oxygen. This highly reactive mixture is injected into the process air exhaust duct.
